Team Description

Zwickau is already known as a city of automotive engineering. The students of the UAS Zwickau wanted to continue with it and that’s the reason why the WHZ Racing Team was founded in 2006.
Our Team consists of nearly 50 engaged and determined students from divers branches of study.
Every student is a part of a specialized sector, e.g. electronics, engine, marketing or finance, but all working together to design and produce our racing car.
The FP 107 was our first car, assembled in June 2007. In Mai 2008 followed the FP 208, with it we have taken part in every European contest (Silverstone, Hockenheim and Fiorano). Being really successful, we got some awards, e.g. “Most Innovative Use of Electronics” and “Best Loom Award”.
In April 2009 followed our third car, the FP309. Last season, we got the "Best Chassis Award" and the "Best Use of Adhesives Award". Our last combustion car was the FP410. It was the most successful car from our team with a 3rd place at the FSC Event in 2010 and a 10th place out of 477 teams in the world ranking list.
Currently our team builds the 2nd electric car and will not participate in FSC 2011.

Info
Innovation meets Tradition: If you look at Zwickau’s automotive history you can easily find out why we picked this slogan for our team. Zwickau is the birthplace of Horch and Audi, and furthermore in the 1930s, it was the home of the Auto Union race cars which dominated the race tracks in Europe. Almost 70 years later, our WHZ Racing Team was founded. Now in 2010, we bring our fourth car, the FP410, to the tracks. The FP410 is based on our last year’s car. This time we concentrated on weight reduction, calibration and driver training. We created a fast and reliable car for the Formula Student. Nowadays, our team consists of about 40 members from different departments of the UAS Zwickau. This team has worked hard and efficiently to upgrade its results for the season 2010. If you would like to know more about our car, we are looking forward to meeting you at the competition. For more information visit our homepage www.whz-racingteam.de

Learning a lesson from the last two cars, concentrating on weight reduction and chassis dynamics we created a fast and reliable car for the Formula Student. The FP309 has innovative technology like carbon-magnesium hybrid rims, fast removable shaft drives and traction control. All these technical aspects, combined with friendly and motivated people result in a team. This team has worked hard and efficiently to upgrade its results for 2009. Zwickau has waited long to regaining race-car strength. Now its time to transfer tradition into reality: FP 309 – it`s coming!

Info
The style of our 2nd car - the FP208 - refers to a long tradition. We transfered distinctive elements of the famous Auto Union racing cars to the FP208: a slender form and small side cases. Of course, the style has been advanced – more modern, dynamic and racy. Especially the colour scheme differs completely from the former Type C legends and even from what today's racing cars usually look like: our car has striking colours with unique foil stickers added. Undoubtedly, the technology of the FP208 is innovative. We succeeded in producing a car body of special plastic comb structure between the laminated plies of GRP, as light as made of CFRP but at a much lower cost. We designed an ECU customized to our particular needs and a transmission CU that is completely electronic. An central electrical system is applied which supersedes any fuses and mechanical switches. Furthermore, we implemented a progressive drive train concept that uses a belt drive and an electro-pneumatic clutch system.
