Team Description

Team TU Brno Racing was founded in 2010 at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, Brno University of Technology. Our first competition was FSUK in 2011 with the monopost called Dragon 1.

The "Dragon" name come from "Brno Dragon" statue located in Brno townhall.

Over the years we established ourselves as a competitive team always seeking for the top places.

Dragon 6 was awarded by Opel Design Award at FSG. Dragon 7 became first overal winner at FSCZ and scored 5. in world ranking. Dragon 8 was awarded as the Most innovative FS vehicle by hungarinan Ministry of Innovation and Technology.

And there is for sure more to come as the team is motivated more than ever to build the fastest car ever :)

The history of TU Brno Racing starts at 2010. With the nearly 40 team members, we aren’t the biggest team, but what we lose in numbers we gain back in enthusiasm and strong heart. We have built nine race cars named Dragon since 2010. The newest one, Dragon 9, with new suspension concept, optimized aero package, CFRP monocoque in front and one cylinder turbocharged dragon heart at the back is demonstrably the fastest one. „One team, one cylinder, one heart.“ This is a definition of TU Brno Racing. We have built seven single seaters for the Formula Student competition in the past seven years. Our team philosophy is a development of a lightweight car equipped with an aerodynamic package and a turbocharged single cylinder engine. This year we managed to build our first carbon fibre monocoque. A higher value of torsional stiffness was achieved thus the weight of the car remains at 180 kg.

In 2016 TU Brno Racing enters its sixth season. Team moto "one heart one cylinder one team" explains team philosophy. This year team focused on details. Nearly 50 students developed and built formula which has power to weight ratio 0,465 PS/kg and is 25kg lighter then previous model. Car was designed from the scratch and built in 7 months - was released on 15th April 2016! Custom turbocharger made by rapid prototyping, new gearbox, tire switch, overall mass 175kg are the highlights of Dragon 6.

In 2015 TU Brno Racing enters its fifth season. For the car it is a season of huge changes. Up until now, we were doing an evolution of our car. Now, we are doing a revolution! Production of our former engine was stopped, therefore we made a switch to Husquarna FE501. That is a lovely engine, although it is missing something. Power! Therefore we went for turbocharging. The development of this engine is finished for now and we are ready to race!

The Formula Student team from Brno University of Technology - TU Brno Racing - was established in autumn 2010. The first competition, which we took part in, was Formula Student UK in 2011. The whole team is excited to start at the Formula Student Germany 2013 event, we are attending FSG for the first time. Except the FSG, TU Brno Racing will start also at FSCZ and FSH this season. The main goal for this season is to successfully finish all the competitions and to improve last years results. We got many experience from testing the previous car which we tried to involve in design of the new car. We aimed on the suspension components to improve reliability of the car and tubular space frame to increase torsional stiffness. A lot of effort was put to single cylinder engine Husaberg FE 570 to improve engine characteristics.
