Team Description

As the first German Formula Student team Baltic Racing has brought this competition to Germany. Thanks to our long history we can look back to many achievements in the past and are looking forward to a great season with our new car – the TY23. Again we have been working very hard to exceed the past year’s performances.
We are more than happy to have the privilege of being part of this great competition and can’t wait for catching up with all our friends at FSG 2023.

Info
Baltic Racing is now participating in its 24th season. Since 1999 the first German team has been manufacturing combustion race cars. As this will be the last season of combustion cars, we wanted to design one last combustion car. A car that will call the rich history of our team to mind and serve the team for many more years while transitioning into the next exciting chapter with electric vehicles. To achieve this, a small team set its goal to leave the combustion competition with a final bang.

Info
As we are the first German Formula Student Team we had much time to develop our cars over a long period. And we can justly say: we have achieved a total revolution for us in this year. We’ve made it from a four-cylinder to a one-cylinder engine. This means a massive loss in weight of about 40kg. That has further consequences for the car, which are more agility and flexibility in driving. This is also supported by an additional loss of weight through the reduction in the length of the car.

In 1999, the first initiations of Baltic Racing were placed at UAS Stralsund. Meanwhile, it’s the largest project at the university and one of the flagship projects. The “TY2013”, the 14th race car from Stralsund, will start at this year’s FSC. The knowledge and experience of many FS years are reflected in this car. The concept with a 4-cylinder-engine and 13” wheels remains the same. However, we have revised and optimized each component to be more environmentally sustainable and lighter. That’s why we developed new camshafts to reduce the fuel consumption and use Jute for the whole bodywork and seat instead of CFRP only as a few highlights. The “TY2013” is the consequence of hard work, experience, sound ideas and interdisciplinary cooperation of about 20 students combined with plenty of good mood. We would like to thank our sponsors, the university and its staff, our alumni & close friends and our beloved families for making this project possible year after year.

Founded in 1999, Baltic Racing (formerly known as "Student-Racing Team") became Germany's very first student team to compete in the Formula Student & FSAE. Despite its location far away from the German automotive industry, the UAS Stralsund has been a pioneer of the German Formula Student movement for many years. Today, after 13 years of successful racecar building and the graduation of over 200 highly motivated and top qualified Formula Student alumni, we are very proud to continue this history with our 13th racecar: the TY2012! We would like to thank all our supporters, including our sponsors, the UAS Stralsund & its staff, our alumni & close friends as well as our beloved families, for making this project possible year after year. Without your efforts & sacrifices, our student lives wouldn't be half as educational, imprinting & enjoyable as they are right now! We cordially invite all visitors to join us in the pits & learn more about the team & our new car, the TY2012.

Being the very first German Formula Student Team, the Baltic Racing Team combined all their experience and knowledge of 10 years into their new car, the "TY2010".Since the very beginning, race cars manufactured in Stralsund were known for their robustness and simplicity, but also for their great driveability and speed. With the huge increase of professionalism in Formula Student over the last years, the team began to focus on lightweight design to stay competitive in 2007. However, we remained faithful to our concept: a 4 cylinder engine, 13 inch wheels and a tubular steel space frame chassis! As a result, we reached a respectable wet car weight of only 185kg in 2008. Naturally, compromises had to be made concerning durability, and Murphy's Law hit us several times right at the events. For the "TY2010", we think we finally found the right compromise between performance and reliability! We made the car as fool-proof and paved our way for a successful event in Hockenheim 2010!
