Drawing upon a wealth of existing Formula Student knowledge the team has focused its attention on data driven designs. Strict performance targets were identified for each vehicle subsystem and every design has been reviewed with respect to the original design criteria. This year’s strategy continues to develop statics but focus heavily on the overall dynamics of the team in order to operate efficiently and realise our full potential. Winning is the only thing that matters, everything else is a consequence of that.

Info
For the 2011 competition UH Racing has combined final year MEng/MSc students with level 4 BEng/BSc students to build a single Class 1 car, UH14. This combination has given the team the opportunity to design, test and develop a much wider range of concepts to a standard never before achieved, as well as having a broader and stronger knowledge base. The team have completed a kinematics and compliance test, a 7 post rig test along with fully testing last year’s car UH13 to gain valuable data from the brand new electronics system developed for UH14. The 2011 competition truly has the potential as a year to be remembered. The merger of all our formula student activities into one team, the return of many team members from the highly successful UH12 team from industrial placements, our continued focus on the static events and our thorough testing plan will all combine to create the best opportunity UH Racing has had to be the first British team to win Formula Student Combustion.

UH Racing returns to FSG for the 3rd year running. 2009 saw the team take second overall - the highest placing for a UK team at FSG ever.UH13, UH Racings 2010 competitor sees improvements to the suspension, with new Penske shocks and wider Hoosier tyres along with completely revised geometry and all-round ARB's. Further engine development, including a new plenum design and further dynometer testing has yielded a more usable power range and more reliable engine package. A more reclined driver position and better driver control ergonomics mean improved driver performance. A completely new inhouse designed differential accompanies last years drivetrain developments to make the best drivetrain combination yet seen on a UH racing car.UH Racing again comes to Germany with strong hopes for another top 5 result!

In a never ending pursuit for the winner's podium, the University of Hertfordshire are returning from their 5th place in Formula Student Germany last year. The implementation of a new cohesive team structure encompassing both class 1 and class 1(A) teams, has enabled a vast improvement in productivity from both parties and a great learning experience to new members of the team. Having consistently ranked as one of the top UK teams the past few years, the team are desperate to take home the trophy this time around! UH12, the team's latest and greatest, was born on paper two years ago and follows the teams core design principle of producing low cost high performance race cars. Incorporating large advances in chassis frame design with the results of extensive tuning in the mapping laboratories, the university's first full camber compensation car is looking to leave quite the impact this summer! www.racing.herts.ac.uk

Carbon fibre has been completely eliminated on UH11 and replaced with a woven polypropylene material called Pure, saving over $500. The new materials CO2 footprint is much smaller and is very easy to recycle.UH Racing were the first team to drive on a new Dunlop tyre developed specifically for FS. Numerous tests in the months leading up to the event have produced a new compound which offers a significant improvement in control, feel and durability. The increased grip is certainly needed as the R6 engine is our most powerful, developing 92bhp thanks to extensive research on the inlet, exhaust and camshafts. The in-house development of a dynamic vehicle simulation program has enabled UH Racing to evaluate a much wider range of design concepts than in previous years.UH11 is fully future-proof, adhering to the 2009 rules regarding increased chassis size and crash safety, making it UH Racing’s most driver-friendly car yet. UH11 is also our lightest at 194kg and is $2000 cheaper.
